Weaving

This quality reprint of a vintage photo shows a young Japanese woman in traditional clothing operates a wooden hand loom. Hand-weaving, or *teori*, is a significant craft in Japan, with regions known for specific textiles like silk and cotton. This image captures traditional textile production during the Meiji period, a time when such crafts were still a vital part of daily life and the economy before widespread industrialization.

The Vintage And. Mattson Mora Weaving Bobbin Winder No. 11, made in Sweden, is a unique and collectible item for sewing enthusiasts. With its green color and vintage original design, this bobbin winder adds a touch of nostalgia to any collection. Its Swedish origin further adds to its charm and authenticity, making it a sought-after piece for those interested in sewing history and craftsmanship.

The product is a set of 14 spools of golden blonde weaving thread, designed for use in various weaving projects. The thread is made of a durable and high-quality material, ensuring strong and long-lasting results.

The size is 27.5″ long and 5.75″ wide. The end fringe (selvedge) is 4″. It is a rare museum quality piece. This is most likely made with natural dyes as it has not changed colors in the 50 plus years I have had it. I purchased this in the mid-1970’s when I lived in Peru and Bolivia for a few years and was mesmerized by and fell in love with the hand-woven textiles of that area. It was already old and rare when I bought it. I was amazed by the intricacy and colors of what was then available and so rare now. I also have other Peruvian and Bolivian weavings I am selling. It has always been in my smoke-free and pet-free home.
