Mammoth

This is a P.H. Hanes & Co. Mammoth Tobacco Works Glass Advertising Paperweight featuring an image of the factory in Winston, N.C. It is a hand- blown white bottom glass dome that typically measures 1.75 inches high and 3 inches in diameter. The item dates to the late 19th century, before the Hanes brothers sold their tobacco business in the 1890s to the American Tobacco Company .

Lot of two large photographs. The first depicts workers at a 50 Stamp Mill (used to crush gold or silver ore). Based on the albumen technique and coat styles (small lapels, buttoned at top) the photograph was likely taken in the 1880s. The mounting board was later trimmed but the actual photo is intact and in excellent condition. It measures about 13.5″ x 10.5.” The second was purchased in the same lot and depicts the Lewis & Clark Courthouse in Helena, Montana. This impressive building served as the Territorial capitol and the first state capitol. Photograph dates to the early 1900s.
