An authentic Civil War era, Federal staff officer button with a “SCOVILL MF’G CO. / WATERBURY.” backmark. The button is approximately 23mm and was intended for the overcoat of a federal staff officer. Cataloged in Albert’s book as GS-13E, a variant face design with a wide flat-top shield.
