Endeavor 14 April 2021 Recommended for mature readers There was a bit of a gap from Endeavor #13 to #14. Like 43 years. During that hiatus, I kept occupied by completing my education, getting a job, and generally living life. 1977 was my last year at Oregon State, and the start of graduate school in Michigan. I could plainly see that 1977 would be a very busy year, and I wasn’t sure I could keep Endeavor up in 1978. So I published three issues in 1977, and I was right — I found too many other horizons. It took a couple years to sink in, but I was done with Endeavor. I nonetheless accumulated an impressive stash of fan zine art and stories in 1978-80. It took Covid to get me focused on reviving the zine, and giving the art and stories their due and long delayed publication. It turned out I was not the only one who had old unpublished art. Several contributors offered works from the 70s and 80s that never reached publication. And more artists and writers provided new material for this issue. Here’s the line-up. Front Cover – Winston Jackson Back Cover – Michael Kucharski and Kurt Erichsen Comics Stories (Super)Bear with Me – Jean-Paul Jennequin Inverted Man – Rich Morrissey, script – Neil Riehle, art Dragonslaver – Kurt Erichsen Nick O’ Time – Dale Nelson Text Stories Trail’s End – Dale Nelson, story – Larry Johnson, art Death Quest of The Wizard Lizard – David McDonnell, story – Guido Rosas, art Set My Penguins Free! – Eringodes Plostherapaba, story — Lance “Doc” Boucher and Kurt Erichsen, art This issue also marks a technological turning point. Printed by Amazon KDP, Endeavor now appears in very professional format thanks to 21st century print-on-demand. The first thirteen issues of Endeavor used nearly every 20th means of reproduction — ditto, mimeo (in three colors), thermofax, electrostencil, offset, diazo. What a difference! I have to admit I don’t miss doing the collating and stapling. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
