I have a passion for paper. ALL kinds of paper. I really love the vintage greeting cards, as the artists were given free reign to express themselves. Most are kitschy and some are just glorious. I love them all, but especially the unused ones. This summer when I make my new store category “How Do These Things Survive” the unused greeting cards will be in there! I purchased a pretty large lot of unused greeting cards a few years ago, all from the mid 1950’s. They were from a greeting card maker (I am SO SORRY, I never found out which one), who went out of business. The cards I bought were all deadstock, that had been lithographed, glittered and embossed, but never printed with a “greeting’. This suited me fine, as I like to write personal greetings, and often include pictures, in my cards that I send. These are perfect, if you like to do that. The cards are pristine. They are all bells, with two have lovely glitter accents, and one (the one with the curved edges) having deeply embossed accents. The embossed one has a big blank spot in the middle, where you can include a photo or a greeting. They all are blank inside. They didn’t come with envelopes, but I keep a big box of greeting card envelopes that I have collected over the years for this very reason – so if you want to send it, you can. The envelopes in one case fits perfectly, and not quite perfectly on one, and large on one. But they all perform their job – getting the card to the recipient. The cards are about the same size, about 5″ by 6”, or a little more or less. They are really beautiful, and have such retro designs. Bells were VERY big in the 1950s.
