An albumen cabinet card photograph by J. Gurney & Son, Fifth Avenue corner 16th Street, New York, depicting theatrical duo “Bertram & Lottie” in matching fringed costumes. Studio backmark with Gurney’s crest and motto “I have chained the sun to serve me.” Identification “Bertram & Lottie” in period pencil on recto and verso. Circa 1875–1885. 4 1/4″ x 6 1/2″
Lot of two large photographs. The first depicts workers at a 50 Stamp Mill (used to crush gold or silver ore). Based on the albumen technique and coat styles (small lapels, buttoned at top) the photograph was likely taken in the 1880s. The mounting board was later trimmed but the actual photo is intact and in excellent condition. It measures about 13.5″ x 10.5.” The second was purchased in the same lot and depicts the Lewis & Clark Courthouse in Helena, Montana. This impressive building served as the Territorial capitol and the first state capitol. Photograph dates to the early 1900s.
