54mm diorama with a W. Britain sculpt on a 4” brass base with a dark brown patina finish. I have repainted and resealed the miniature to give it a less “shiny new toy” appearance. Boots, straps, shadows and highlights throughout, the whole figure got a good going over and looks more like he’s been on the march to Saratoga and not on dress parade. As with anything, the camera can often make things look better (or worse) depending on lighting. I therefore put in two sets of photographs. One with a direct light source on them and a second showing the piece in natural light on a white background. The paints are Humbrol as well as some Vallejo as well. The diorama depicts a soldier of the British 62nd Regiment exiting the woods into the clearing known as Freeman’s Farm. Little did they know it, but they would re-enter and exit the tree line another 3 times in a day of back and forth fighting before darkness put an end to the first day of fighting. The 62nd bore the brunt of the casualties, some 50 man companies reduced to 20 men so that by days end, while the British held the Farm, the 62nd was just about hors de combat. I hope you enjoy this beautiful piece that will look great on a desk or on a library shelf. It also is a great reminder of the sacrifice so many people made during the American War of Independence on fields far from home.
